What's New in RLM v4.0

We've made many improvements in RLM v4.0. The RLM Programmer's documentation, available as an HTML file in the RLM developer's kit, contains complete v4.0 details. Please contact us if you would like to evaluate RLM. The following summarizes the major new features in v4.0; first for ISVs, then for end users.

New for ISVs

RLM now supports improved named-user license type: RLM's named-user licenses now prevent re-enrollment into the named user list until after a 24 hour period.

RLM now can anonymize logfiles: The new rlmanon utility re-processes an RLM report log and changes all user and host names to name with a sequence numbers. For more information, see the section called License Administration Tools or rlmanon in the RLM Integrators Manual.

RLM now supports the Windows Volume Serial Number as a hostid.

Integration of "roaming" is simplified: RLM will attempt a checkout of a roamed license if all other checkouts fail, so the RLM_ROAM environment does not need to be set on a system disconnected from the network which has a roaming license.

RLM on Intel Solaris systems is aware of Solaris containers.. This means that RLM license servers on Intel Solaris systems will no longer run on any zone other than the "Global" zone (zone 0). rlmhostid will print the string "(Virtual: zone N)" after the hostid if the command is run on a zone other than zone 0 (N is the zone number on which the command was run).

New for End Users

Report Logs are now all authenticated.. The "auth" parameter in the ISV options file is no longer required, as all report logs are now written with authentication.

The rlm server now has an options file to control access to certain administration functions. - The new rlm options file "rlm.opt" allows you to control access to the reread, shutdown, status and option editing commands. See The RLM Options File section in the RLM Integrators Manual for more information.

ISV servers now support Automatic Report log file rotation. RLM reportlogs can be automatically rotated daily, weekly, monthly, or every N days.  For details see the description of the ROTATE option in The ISV Options File section of the RLM Integrators Manual.

RLM now can anonymize logfiles: The new rlmanon utility re-processes an RLM report log and changes all user and host names to name with a sequence numbers. For more information, see the section called License Administration Tools or rlmanon in the RLM Integrators Manual.

The RLM web interface allows editing of server options files.

The RLM web interface will display recent debug log information from the servers.
